Titan Missile Silo Tour

Toured a Titan II missile silo near Tucson today.  Very interesting and good tour. Well worth seeing.

9 mega ton war head.  9 mega tons of dynamite would fill a enough box cars to make a 1200 mile long train!

Door pins for the main door into the complex

Lights and all major equipment is mounted on springs to allow movement in case of a near miss.
Springs in the cylinders and longer wires allow for movement

Launch console. 58 seconds from receiving the command until the missile is away.

The whole launch room is mounted on springs.  Moves up and down 15 inches and back and forth 11 inches.

Suits for the fuelers to wear.
Walkway is mounted on springs too.
Blast door to the missile area.

Old system for telling the missile exactly where it is so the guidance system can calibrate.
