USS North Carolina

Visited the USS North Carolina today.  It is a self guided tour and there is more of the ship open then other ships I've been on.  Fun to walk around.

Looking through the sight of the aft 16"guns.  You can kind of see the airplane on the catapult.
16"shell coming up to load in the gun.
Powder being loaded into the gun behind the shell.

 Inside the turret.
Bakery.  These are all bread pans!

 Emergency generator.
 Engine controls
 Gear reduction
 One of the 4 turbines

 Propeller shaft. About 18"in diameter
 Kitchen

 Automatic potato peeler!
Back up rudder controls and rudder hydraulics.

 Machine shop

 Controls and targeting for 16"guns

 Firing triggers.
 16"shells

 Powder storage

Powder in the elevator and ready to be lifted up to the turret.
Shell in the lift to go up to the turret.  Sorry it is sideways!

 Inside a 5"turret

16" armored door! This is the "Conning tower" where the officers control the ship from during fighting.
