Visited War Eagle Mine outside of Tecopa, Ca. Mine has 6 levels going about 1/4 mile deep and walked over 4 miles underground. It has one a very large ore hopper too. Saw it over two days, one in the rain and snow and the second day in the sun.
Ore shoot
Some nice views, even in the rain
Over 4"of snow in the pass
Snow looks better with blue skies (Day 2)
2nd Entrance
A lot of wood shoring and ore shoots through out the main level
Lots of cribbing in some areas
Found the incline shaft!!
Going down? Two sets of tracks and a walk way going down 6 levels
At each level there was a gate that could be raised to let the cart down to another level or lowered so it would stop at this level
Ore cart and storage area
This level wasn't as fancy. The 2nd track stopped at level 4 and only one continued to the bottom
Sled to go on the tracks at the very bottom of the mine
Headed back up! Culvert was for air supply and the 4"pipe was probably compressed air for the tools
Found a working switch to change tracks!
Even found old dynamite in a few spots.
Found this large room. A lot of mining went on in here.
More cribbing
5 hours later, back to day light!! Didn't see all of it, but saw a lot.
