Kennedy Space Center Part 2

Rocket assembly building from 5 miles away.

Space X rocket is inside that building prepping to be launched.

Gantry being modified for the next generation rocket.
Inside the assembly building.  Equivalent height to a 52 story building. Used for assembling the Saturn rockets and the shuttle.
The rocket or shuttle parts were brought into the main building then lifted vertical and moved into one of the 4 assembly bays to be stacked and assembled.

Looking through the slot into an assembly bay.
Lifting the top section of one of the moon rockets.  You can see the feet of the lander in the picture.

 Assembly area.

To give an idea of the size of the building, the stars on the flag are 6 foot from point to point.  The blue part of the flag is the size of a NBA court!

 Launch control
Roller to move rockets and shuttles to the launch pad.

Shuttle launch gantry. Soon to be disassembled to make way for a more generic launch pad that can be used by multiple kinds of rockets.

Liquid O2 tank for fueling the shuttle main fuel tank.
Liquid hydrogen tank in the distance for fueling the shuttle tank.

This is where the water pours in, 350,000 gallons in 20 seconds or so, to dampen the acoustic waves of 180+ decibels that would otherwise damage the shuttle or rocket being launched.

 Water tower and water pipes.
 Deluge water system.
This is part of the escape system in case of emergency. The astronauts would slide down a cable, zip line style, while in a basket.  They would hit the nets to stop then either run into the tunnel entrances shown or get in n armored personnel carrier and drive away.

About in the middle of the picture is where the escape system started off at.  They had to stop allowing the astronauts to test it when they developed heavier space suits. Where afraid they would get hurt.

 Blast deflectors.

 Press boxes.
Saturn rocket and moon landing control room. Actual computers configured as they were in the 60's .

Actual re-entry capsules that was in space.
